- Statement to voters
I am John Jordan and I am the Green Party candidate for the Mere Electoral Division. I have lived, with my family, in Mere Town for nineteen years. I enjoy the area, indeed, when I came down from Salford, many years ago to apply for a job – I thought that the area is beautiful and this is where people go on vacation. Since retiring from that job and moving from Somerset to Mere, I have been active in the area; being a school governor, volunteering for several local groups and being a town councillor. My family and I have benefited from the local services from schooling, health care to the allotment that we rent and we are thankful.
As I watch my grandchildren grow up (and more of them arrive) my focus has changed somewhat. I have had good fortune but feel that their future is at risk and in my remaining years I hope to do as much as possible for their and their childrens’ futures. This has brought me to looking at where the most support for the future is and I have joined the Green Party. I am asking you to vote for the Green Party by putting an x by my name so that I can pursue Green Party priorities here in Wiltshire because:
• Real Action on Climate Change – The council declared a climate emergency but hasn’t done much since. Greens push for actual solutions, like more renewable energy, better insulation for homes, and cutting carbon emissions properly.
• Saving Green Spaces – Too many fields, woods, and wildlife habitats are being lost to unnecessary developments. Green councillors fight to protect nature and make sure new homes are built in the right places, with proper green space.
• Better Transport, Less Pollution – Wiltshire’s public transport is a mess. Greens campaign for better bus services, safe cycling routes, and pedestrian-friendly streets to cut car dependency and reduce pollution.
• Sensible Housing Plans – New homes should be affordable, energy-efficient, and built in the right places—not just crammed onto greenfield sites with no thought for local services. Greens push for smarter planning.
• Support for Local Businesses – Instead of backing big corporations, Green councillors fight for local, sustainable businesses, farmers, and community projects that keep money in Wiltshire.
• Holding the Council to Account – Wiltshire Council needs fresh ideas and councillors who will challenge bad decisions. Greens bring real change, not just talk.
Basically, if you want a cleaner, greener, fairer Wiltshire, electing me as your Green councillor is the way to go!- This statement was last updated on 6 April 2025 05:28.
