Statement to voters

Hello Amesbury,
I’d like to introduce myself to those who don’t already know me.
I’m Dan, and for the past 11 years, I’ve been a pub landlord. Over the years, we’ve raised significant funds for various charities, provided jobs for many local people—often giving young adults their first step into the workforce—and have proudly sponsored several sports teams. Alongside this, my team has successfully managed other businesses in the area.
I’ve lived in Amesbury for years, from Archers Gate to Harvard Park and Kickdom Close, before recently moving closer to the pub. My family have loved being part of this community. It’s been a joy watching our children grow up alongside many of yours.
Lately, though, I’ve been frustrated by the state of our local area.
The pothole crisis, brilliantly highlighted by the Wiltshire Wanksy’s artistic trail, shows just how bad our roads have become. Booking a doctor’s appointment feels like a mission impossible, and even when you succeed, you’re stuck queuing for hours at our under-resourced pharmacies. Antisocial behaviour is creeping up, with some parks now best avoided after dark, while our overstretched police struggle to keep up.
Council tax has risen 24% in the last 5 years, yet we see little improvement in our quality of life.
Nationally, it’s no better. This week alone, we’re hit with rising water rates, household bills, internet and phone costs, stamp duty, and National Insurance. Running a business in this climate is tougher than ever—record numbers are failing. Job opportunities, especially for our young people, are shrinking, leaving many feeling trapped with little hope for the future.
Then there’s the government—taking away allowances from the elderly and disabled. How are we meant to carry on like this? If things don’t change Britain will be unrecognisable by the next general election.
That’s why I’ve decided to stand for Reform UK in the Amesbury West elections on May 1st. Change starts here, now, at the local level. I want to fight for better roads, improved healthcare access, safer streets, and a fairer deal for our community. But I can’t do it alone—I need your support.
Best regards,
Dan
