- Statement to voters
I live in Swindon and have been a local councillor for Eastcott since 2018. I am standing again for re-election in May as a Labour candidate as this is the only party I believe stands up to issues of equal rights and opportunities, too many people are being left behind under the current system and local administration.
Swindon residents are crying out for change and this can only be achieved by a change of local Government.
I am standing to be re-elected this May for Labour because I have met so many people who complain that they are not happy with the decisions made by the local Tory administration. Increases in Council Tax, bad roads and lack of any community support.
I have met families who are barely able to afford to feed their kids, I have met teachers leaving the profession because of education cuts and young people unable to get anywhere decent to live. Cuts to funding in Police have increased crime.
I want to help reverse the inequaliites that have been perpetuated under this Tory administration, which I believe are so detrimental to the whole of Swindon rich and poor alike.
Residents like the policies Labour want to introduce. We want more police on the streets, investment in local communities, Health and Education and a halt to the decline in the infrastructure of our town. I believe this can be achieved if our priorities change but it will only happen if you vote Labour. We have to reverse the gross inequalities that force families on low incomes to rely on food banks and we have to pursue policies that promote genuine social inclusion.
I am actively involved in the community where I live in successfully bringing communities together, by hosting local events, raising money for local charities and working co-operatively with others in promoting equal rights, opportunities and responsibilities. During the pandemic I have worked with Public Health England to make local community videos, led a food bank from my garage.
If re-elected I will use these same skills to ensure a more secure future for our families, our children and grandchildren.
I understand some of the core problems that people face in my ward, with a growing population and inadequate local services it is becoming increasingly harder for families with rise in cost of living.
If re-elected as your local ward Councillor, I will fight hard to represent all the people of Eastcott.
My aim will be to support policies that promote healthy communities and genuine social inclusion . When communities come together they flourish together. “For the many not the few” is more than a political slogan it encapsulates everything I believe in.
