Statement to voters

"Hi my name’s Margaret and I’m your current local Councillor.

I’ve lived in Welwyn Garden City my whole life and have had the privilege of representing our community for 25 years. I love it here and that’s why I try to be as active in our community as possible – although it takes a little juggling with four grandchildren!

I’m a trustee of the Ludwick Family Club and a Governor at Ludwick Nursery School, a school that I’ve been campaigning to secure funding for so that future generations can enjoy the same level of education and care that me and my family have.

You might have seen the recent coverage of my campaign to return seating to Woodhall shops. The Tories took these benches away without properly speaking to residents. I spent a weekend speaking to shoppers who told us – in no uncertain terms – that they wanted them back. We were successful in getting a bench put back, but this isn’t enough.

I think I’ve got a voting history to be proud of, and I hope you’ll agree. I stood against the bin tax, have always voted down Councillor Pay increases, have vocally criticised the disastrous policy of Universal Credit that leaves many of our neighbours without money to feed their families, and most recently I was proud to vote against increasing Council Tax – despite Conservative and Liberal Democrats fighting for it.

Yet again the Conservatives have forced massive cuts to our budgets, cuts facilitated by this Conservative council. You pay more but get a whole lot less. I want to change that."
