Statement to voters

I am driven to do my bit to help make society fairer. I cannot bear to see how the system can reward some of us so highly while there are others who haven’t even got the basics of food and shelter. I know that life in Britain does not have to be this way, and I believe that a more equal society benefits us all.

The Labour manifesto that we brought forward in 2017 was the tip of the iceberg of positive change that is possible in 21st century Britain. Just imagine how much better off we would be as a country if everyone earned a stable, predictable and adequate wage. Imagine if everyone could afford to feed their family and heat their homes, that everyone could take control of their own lives and potential in a system of education and social support that really works for us as citizens.

I believe all this and more is possible, and I believe that I can play my part in making it happen for people in Swindon and beyond. When I talk to someone who is sleeping rough by the Co-op in Old Town, or who is living in a privately rented home that is unfit for human habitation in the centre of town, or for whom not working pays better than working under Universal Credit, because they can’t afford childcare, or who has been taken to court for rent arrears they simply cannot pay, then I think it’s time to elect someone in South Swindon who will stand up for everyone.

Someone who will stand up for nurses visiting food banks, for teachers who buy shoes and meals for school children, for doctors who know that they are the last person standing between 10,000 patients and a GP surgery closure – these are all real examples, among so many, from people who have spoken to me in Swindon and who deserve better. I want to be their MP, I want to be your MP. It’s about service, it’s about representation and it’s about fairness.

I live in Swindon with my family. I work for a Swindon based green technology company and have been a public services campaigner in Swindon since leaving the Army in 2015.
